North Charleston, SC - Cail MacLean got two goals and Davis Parley continued his stellar play as the South Carolina Stingrays defeated the Florida Everblades 4-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum.

"I like the way we played for most of the game," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "The new guys played well and Davis [Parley] once again was great in net for us."

The game got underway with Nate Kiser and Brad Herauf throwing down just 1:36 into the period. The fight certainly set the tone for the game for both teams. Jarrett Lukin gave the Everblades a 1-0 lead on a puck that was misplayed by Davis Parley at 3:57. But MacLean tied the game up on his first goal of the night on a back-door play from Travis Morin and Chris Chaput at 8:47. MacLean would strike again, this time on a 5 on 3, getting a rebound off a shot from Marty Guerin. The goal was assisted by both Guerin and Rory Rawlyk and was MacLean's second of the game and his 21st goal of the season. The goal came at 15:55 and made it 2-1 after the first period.

In the second period the Rays increased their lead to two goals. Matt Scherer received a pass from Pierre-Luc O'Brien and wristed it past David Shantz to make it 3-1. The goal came at 2:42 and was Scherer's 10th of the year from O'Brien and Todd Griffith. With less than a minute left to go in the period the Everblades got a goal by Preston Callander to make it a one goal game going into the third period.

The third period featured wide open play, and numerous chances for both teams. But it was on a broken play at 14:41 that Griffith got his 16th goal of the season to make it 4-2, the eventual final. Right out of the penalty box, Griffith grabbed the puck and brought it into the offensive zone. While trying to make a centering pass, the puck hit off a Florida defenseman's skate and slid in past Shantz.

The winning goaltender was Parley who stopped 44 of the 46 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Shantz who stopped 27 of the 31 shots he faced. The Rays went 1-5 on the power play while killing off all two short handed situations they faced.

Prior to the game the South Carolina Stingrays signed forward Ben Nelson. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Nelson, 24, recently completed his senior season at Quinnipiac University, where he totaled 66 goals and 68 assists for 134 points in 143 career games. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound native of Spokane, Washington ranked among the top four in team scoring during each of his four years with the Bobcats, including a 35-point effort this season that finished second.

In his freshman season of 2004-05, Nelson was an Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie team selection, after registering 28 points (18g, 10a). He was also an ECAC Hockey League All-Academic team selection during the 2005-06 & 2006-07 campaigns.

Prior to joining Quinnipiac, Nelson spent two seasons with the BCHL's Cowichan Valley Capitals, amassing 129 points (68g, 61a) in 110 contests. He collected 43 goals during the 2003-04 campaign, which placed fourth in the league.
