Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the "AA" affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that they have signed rookie winger Matt Dias to a contract. He is expected to make his professional debut on Saturday when the Nailers host the Cincinnati Cyclones.
Dias (pronounced: dee-az) comes to Wheeling after completing his third season with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. The 5-foot-11-inch, 195 pound winger notched 42 points (19g, 23a) in 66 games for the Wolves during the recently completed season. In his OHL career the 19-year-old managed 112 points (59g, 53a) in 190 games, all with Sudbury.
A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Diaz scored the game winning goal for the Wolves in triple overtime to clinch the 2007 OHL Eastern Conference Championship. Also on that team were former Nailer and current Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguin defenseman Jon D'Aversa as well as New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal.
The Nailers return to action on Saturday at 7:35pm as they host the Cincinnati Cyclones. The first 2,500 fans will receive a MOONDOG mini-bobblehead courtesy of Generations, Convenient, and Shirts & More. Doors will open at 5:30pm and tickets are still available by calling 304-234-GOAL or www.wheelingnailers.com.
