Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads today announced that goaltender Steve Silverthorn and forward Mark Bomersback have been assigned to the team from its affiliate, the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League. Rookie Peter Rouleau [Roo-LOW] has been released from Idaho effective 3/20/08.
Last season's ECHL Kelly Cup Playoff MVP, Silverthorn, has spent time with both Idaho and Iowa this season. The 27-year-old was loaned to Idaho on Oct. 31 after beginning the year in Iowa's training camp. The Stars recalled him on Dec. 17 and returned him to Idaho five days later. He played his last game with the Steelheads on Jan. 5 at Bakersfield recording a 2-1 win with 32 stops before earning his last recall to Iowa on Jan. 8. The 6-2 goalie went 2-5-0 with a 3.36 goals-against average and .886 save percentage with Iowa having seen action in nine games. In 19 games with the Steelheads this season, Silverthorn has compiled 8-9-2-2 record with two shutouts, a .914 save percentage and a 2.53 goals-against average. Silverthorn helped Idaho claim its second ECHL championship in four seasons in 2007.
Rookie Bomersback, 25, was the Steelheads scoring leader when he received a call up from the Iowa Stars on Dec. 28, 2007. The 5-10, 190-pound left wing played his last game with Idaho on Dec. 27 and left to go to Idaho's affiliate with 30 ECHL points (16g-14a). In 21 games with Iowa, Bomersback has tallied 7 points (2g-5a).
Rouleau, 25, was released after playing in Wednesday's game with Idaho. Steelheads head coach Derek Laxdal said he'd like to keep Rouleau on, but with players being returned to Idaho from the Stars, he doesn't have room on the roster for the 5-7, 165-pound center. Rouleau was Michigan Tech's leading scorer this season.
The Steelheads finish out the three-game series against the Stockton Thunder with games tonight and Saturday at Qwest Arena. After this weekend, only two home games remain in the 2007-08 regular season.
