Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons won their third straight game on Friday, defeating the Bakersfield Condors 4-1 in front of 5,677 fans at Save Mart Center.
The Falcons struck first with a power-play goal 11:41 into the first period. Josh Prudden took a pass at the top of the right-wing circle, and snapped a shot past goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji for his fifth goal of the season.
But, Bakersfield came right back to tie the game just 17 seconds later. Andrew Ianiero skated into the left-wing circle, and hit Chris Di Ubaldo skating to the top of the crease. Di Ubaldo reached out, and poked the puck past Jake Moreland to even the score at one. It was the first goal allowed by the Falcons in the opening period in their last nine games.
Kenny Bernard added his 11th goal of the season at 16:53 to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play. Bernard skated in on a 2-on-1 rush, used Matt Quinn as a decoy, and beat Fukufuji with a backhand shot high to glove side.
The score remained 2-1 until the 7:29 mark of the third period when Brady Leisenring skated free into the right-wing circle and snuck a shot pat Fukufuji on the near post, extending the Falcons lead to 3-1.
Bernard iced the game with a shorthanded, empty-net goal at 17:37.
The Falcons killed off all five Bakersfield power plays on the night, and have now killed off 17 straight power-play opportunities.
Moreland won his 20th game of the season, finishing with 24 saves.
Fresno and Bakersfield play the second game of their three-game series on Saturday, with face-off set for 7:30 p.m. at Save Mart Center. At 4:30 p.m., a team of Falcons alumni will take on a team of Condors alumni. The jerseys from that game will be auctioned off throughout the Falcons game, with proceeds benefitting Make-a-Wish Central California and the Junior Falcons. Tomorrow also marks the return of the World Famous San Diego Chicken, presented by KSEE 24, 95.7 The Fox, and Carl's Jr.
