Checkers Fall to Gladiators, 6-2

Charlotte N.C. - The Gwinnett Gladiators snapped the Charlotte Checkers four game winning streak mounting two comebacks to attain their victory by a score of 6-2.

The captain of the Checkers, Blake Bellefeuille got the scoring started in the first period after his wrist shot went in and out of the glove of Gladiators goalie, Dan Turple and into the net at 17:29. After twenty minutes, the Checkers held a 1-0 advantage.

The Gladiators would gain momentum in the second period and strike for the tying goal on the power play. Bryson Busniuk fired a shot that beat Checkers netminder, Chris Holt at 2:29. The Checkers would regain their one goal lead when Tom Pyatt slammed home a loose puck in front of a sprawling Turple at 5:22 giving Charlotte a 2-1 lead. The counterpunch came from Gwinnett forward Mike Hamilton as he skated in off the right wing boards and rifled a shot over the catching glove of Holt tying the game at 2-2 at 9:15.

In the third period, the Gladiators received the go-ahead goal from Jamie Milam on the power play after his blast from the blueline snuck through bodies in front and between the legs of Holt at 3:19. The power play continued to be the theme for Gwinett as the got another goal with the man advantage and this time it was Jeff Campbell's shot that at 13:45 that gave his team a 4-2 lead. Gwinnett would add one more goal at 15:51 by Tomas Pospisil helping them to a 5-2 lead and the victory snapping.
