West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

The West Michigan Whitecaps evened their second half record at 1-1 with a 5-4 win over the Burlington Bees in Iowa on Friday night. The Bees, who scored six runs in the ninth inning to sting the 'Caps last week at Fifth Third Ballpark, scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth before the 'Caps got the final two outs to escape with the victory.

The 'Caps got off to a great start in their first at-bat with an RBI single from Juan Francia and a two-run homer from Luis Sabino for a 3-0 lead. With a 3-1 lead in the third, Sabino and Kelly Hunt drove in runs for a 5-1 West Michigan advantage.

The 5-1 lead held up until the bottom of the ninth when three walks and a double plated three Burlington runs before the final two outs were secured for the 'Caps victory.

West Michigan starter Brian Rogers pitched five solid innings to notch his first win since mid-May. Francia had his second straight two-hit game for the 'Caps.

The 'Caps and Bees meet again on Saturday night in game three of the series at 8:00 Michigan time.
