FOUR SWING PLAYERS PARTICIPATE IN ALL-STAR FESTIVITIES
Outfielder Scott Whitrock got the start and played all nine innings, while Brock Peterson, Errol Simonitsch, and Julio DePaula all contributed to the West's 6-3 victory over the east in Tuesday night's All-Star game in Cedar Rapids. Before the game, Whitrock brought the crowd to its feet with a stirring second-place performance in the annual home run hitting contest. Reggy the Purple Party Dude and Cedar Rapids baseball legend Rob Dibble were all on hand to make the All-Star game a truly unforgettable time.

GAME OF THE WEEK: Swing 7, Snappers 4
The Swing equaled a season-best four-game winning streak last Friday night when they earned a dramatic 7-4 win over the Beloit Snappers, highlighted by Scott Whitrock's two-out homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. Peter Tautor worked two scoreless innings to earn his second victory of the season for the Swing, while Chris Schutt worked a stellar seven frames (for the third straight time) to pick up no decision. In many ways, the win was one of the biggest of the season for the Swing, as it marked their return to .500 for the first time since mid-May, and moved them within striking distance of fifth place over the final weekend of the first half. The game was also important because it marked the return of infielder JR Taylor to the lineup.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Scott Whitrock
Second place in the home run derby. Playing all nine innings of an All-Star Game victory. Game-winning homer to start the week...is there any doubt that the Swing's Player of the Week is outfielder Scott Whitrock? Whitrock is one of the hardest working and fastest players in the entire Twins system. A 19th-round selection in the 2001 draft out of Madison Area Technical College, Whitrock overcame a difficult 2003 â in which he batted .230 in part-time duty for Quad City â to become one of the Midwest League's most dominant and dynamic players in 2004. Entering tonight's game at Cedar Rapids, Whitrock leads the Swing in numerous offensive categories, including home runs (8), triples (7, which leads the league), runs scored (33) and slugging percentage (.467). He also ranks second on the roster in stolen bases (11) and runs batted in (32) and has provided nine outfield assists with his cannon of an arm in right field.
