DAYTON - After seeing Adalberto Mendez cough up a two-run lead in the series opener, the Lugnuts(39-33, 1-1)bullpen wasn't about to let that happen in Friday's game. The Lugs got solid work from Randy Wells(3-5) and Juan Mateo as they poured on offense late to beat Dayton(28-44, 1-1) by a 7-2 score at Fifth Third Field.

Dayton took the early lead off Justin Jones, manufacturing a 1-0 lead without collecting a base hit. Luis Bolivar was hit by a pitch, went to second on a walk to Joey Votto, stole third and scored on a sacfly by Walter Olmstead. Lansing tied the score at 1-1 in the fourth on a one-out double by Alan Rick and a sacrifice by Tony McQuade.

In the fifth, the Lugnuts saw the Dragons once again get a run without collecting a hit. Four walks around three strikeouts chased Jones and Ben Himes' two-out bases loaded walk scored Will Hudson, giving Dayton a 2-1 edge.

In the sixth, Lansing tied the score on a single by Rick and a single by Drew Larsen and then took the advantage in the seventh on a double by Brian Dopirak. The Lugnuts put the game away by scoring four times in the eighth while Mateo worked the final two innings in order.

The Lugnuts and Dragons continue their series on Saturday night in Ohio as Ronald Bay gets the start for Lansing. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
