Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Minnesota Twins on Friday night assigned major league utility player Nick Punto to the Swing of the Quad Cities, for a rehabilitation assignment. Punto will join the Swing in Cedar Rapids on Saturday night, and will play with the Swing during the team's upcoming homestand, which begins Monday against Cedar Rapids.

Punto has been on the disabled list since May 24, with a strained left oblique muscle. Prior to that, Punto had batted .268 with four stolen bases in 22 games for the Twins. He has seen time at second base, third base, shortstop and center field for Minnesota this season.

A 5-9, 176-pounder from Mission Viejo, California, Punto was acquired by the Minnesota Twins this past offseason in the trade that sent Eric Milton to the Philadelphia Phillies. He was originally selected in the 21st round of the 1998 draft, out of Saddleback Community College in California.

NEXT HOME GAME: The Swing return home to host the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Monday, June 28. First pitch is scheduled for noon.

PROMOTION: Monday, June 28, will be a special noon start time, and there will be numerous day camps and day care centers in attendance.
