Bulls Win Opener Against Knights 9-7 Tuesday

(DURHAM, NC) - The Charlotte Knights brough the tying run to home plate in the top of the ninth inning but fell just short in the opening game of a six-game series against the Durham Bulls by a score of 9-7 on Tuesday night from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. The Bulls scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to go on for the win. The Knights possessed two separate leads in the game despite the loss.

Offensively, Tyler Neslony and Clint Frazier homered for the Knights in the opener. For Neslony, he had a solid performance at the plate on Tuesday. He went 4-for-5 with his first home run of the season with the Knights and added two RBI. Frazier launched his ninth home run of the season in the fourth inning of Tuesday's game. In all, the Knights tallied a game-high 15 hits on the night, four more than the Bulls.

RHP Jimmy Lambert (0-1, 8.36) was saddled with the loss after he entered the game with a 7-6 lead and allowed three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The inning was highlighted by a three-run triple by Osleivis Basabe. He finished the game 3-for-5 with four RBI and just a home run short of the cycle.

RHP Mike Mayers started the game for the Knights and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits over 2.2 innings pitched. He did not factor in the decision. Relievers Declan Cronin (1.1 IP) and Luke Farrell (1.2 IP) were sharp in relief.

The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) on Wednesday night. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. from Durham, NC on Wednesday.
