Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos picked up a big 4-3 win over the Regina Pats on Monday afternoon in front of over 5,700 fans at the Brandt Centre.
The contest was tight throughout, with the game knotted 2-2 through 20 minutes, and then 3-2 in favour of the visitors after 40 minutes. The Pats tied the game less than five minutes into the final frame, but Josh Davies of the Broncos would then score the eventual game-winner at the 7:59 mark.
Tanner Howe, Connor Bedard and Stanislav Svozil each found the back of the net for the Pats, while Davies and Karson King each notched a pair of goals for Swift Current.
The Pats outshot the Broncos 32-23 in the game, including 15-8 in the third period. The Pats had a strong effort to tie the game late and hit a couple posts, plus Isaac Poulter made some standout stops for Swift Current.
THE GOALS
1st Period
SC 1-0 at 2:19 - Karson King (3), assisted by Rylan Gould // After Sim stopped Gould coming down the wing with his shoulder, King was able to bat in the rebound out of the air.
REG 1-1 at 3:17 - Tanner Howe (19), unassisted // Broncos defenceman Eric Van Impe broke his stick at the offensive blue line, allowing Howe to chip it past him and fly the other way. Howe took the puck to the backhand on the breakaway and roofed it over the glove of Poulter to tie the game.
REG 2-1 at 6:49 - Connor Bedard (31), assisted by Ryker Evans (37) and Tanner Howe (23) [PPG] // After some good puck movement on the power play, Bedard got the puck at the left face-off dot and was able to work his way to the slot, before firing one past the blocker.
SC 2-2 at 9:38 - Karson King (4) scores // The Pats failed to clear the puck, and after a battle at the side of the net, King was able to whack the puck in along the ice.
2nd Period
SC 3-2 at 11:18 - Josh Davies (14), assisted by by Connor Hvidston and Sam McGinley // Hvidston carried the puck into the Pats zone on a 3-on-2 rush and was stopped, but Davies was able to backhand home the rebound.
3rd Period
REG 3-3 at 4:41 - Stanislav Svozil (5) scores, assisted by Cole Dubinsky (16) and Connor Bedard (27) // After a sleek move from Dubinsky to bank the puck off the back of the net to himself, Svozil got the puck and was able to walk the blue line, where he fired a wrist shot through traffic that went right to the top corner.
SC 4-3 at 7:59 - Josh Davies (15), assisted by Braeden Lewis and Rayan Bettahar // Davies entered the zone and was forced wide and around the net. He carried the puck up high in the zone and spun and fired a shot towards the net that ricocheted off a body and deflected past Sim.
