Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

DES MOINES, IOWA - Jonathan Bowlan fired his second straight quality start and the Omaha Storm Chasers survived a seven-run barrage in the ninth inning from the Iowa Cubs in a series-opening 10-9 win for the Chasers.

Bowlan allowed just two runs over his six innings of work, a pair of solo homers to Iowa left fielder Jared Young in the first and third innings. The right-hander had a pair of 1-2-3 innings and struck out two, only issuing one walk and relying on weak contact to get outs.

Omaha leapt ahead of Iowa in the third inning, as back-to-back homers from Logan Porter and Angelo Castellano quickly tied the game and gave the Chasers a lead they didn't relinquish. After a double from Clay Dungan, Nick Pratto singled him in, then RBI fielder's choice groundouts from Tyler Gentry and John Rave scored additional runs to cap a five-run frame.

Devin Mann added runs of insurance in the fifth and sixth innings, on a solo homer in the fifth and bases-loaded walk in the sixth.

A walk and single put two runners on in the seventh for Bubba Thompson, who crushed a three-run homer to center field, giving Omaha a double-digit run total in the ballgame.

Behind Veneziano, Jonah Dipoto threw a perfect seventh inning and Taylor Hearn loaded the bases in the eighth, but worked out of trouble with three strikeouts to keep the I-Cubs off the board.

After Omaha was retired seven straight at the plate from the seventh inning to the ninth, the game entered the bottom of the ninth with the Storm Chasers leading by eight. 9 of the first 10 Cubs hitters in the ninth reached base, cutting the Chasers' lead from eight runs to just two, off of two Iowa homers. Christian Chamberlain only recorded one out of the six batters he faced and after allowing a home run, Jonathan Heasley issued three straight walks to load the bases with still just one out in the inning. A sacrifice fly cut Omaha's lead to one run, but Heasley struck out pinch-hitter Yonathan Perlaza to finish off the game and a 10-9 win for the Chasers.

The Storm Chasers will try and win a third straight game Wednesday with a 12:08 p.m. CT first pitch at Principal Park with left-hander Drew Parrish headed to the mound for Omaha.
