Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY - Despite getting runners on in every inning except the first, the Louisville Bats (69-61) dropped the series opener against St. Paul Saints (76-57) with a final score of 11-3 on Tuesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

St. Paul got off to a quick start, combining a few walks with a sacrifice flyout to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

Louisville fought back in the bottom of the second, starting with a double by Jhonny Pereda. An RBI single by TJ Hopkins brought Pereda home to even up the score at 1-1.

Righthanded starter Teddy Stankiewicz (1-2, 9.79) pitched three-and-two-thirds innings, tossing four strikeouts on 88 pitches with no hits.

The Saints drew several walks and capitalized with two RBI base hits to take back a lead of 5-1 in the top of the fourth.

St. Paul strengthened their lead in the top of the fifth with a two-run shot and the top of the eighth with a grand slam to put the Bats down 11-1.

Louisville threatened to tie up the score several times - getting batters on base in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings - but were unable to take advantage and stranded the runners.

The Bats lineup got a rally going in the bottom of the eighth to cut down the St. Paul lead. Henry Ramos drew a walk to start off the effort and then scored on Pereda's second RBI double of the game, making it 11-2 going into the ninth.

After drawing a walk in the bottom of the ninth, Alejo Lopez scored one more for Louisville on a single by Jason Vosler, but the Bats fell to St. Paul 11-3.

Louisville will continue the series against St. Paul tomorrow, Wednesday, September 6 with the first pitch set for 6:35 pm E.T. at Slugger Field. Righty Randy Wynne (3-4, 6.03) will take the mound for the Bats in his eighth start this season.
