
Jumbo Shrimp Blast Three Home Runs in 9-4 Win Over Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. -Jacob Amaya walloped two home runs and Troy Johnston blasted a three-run shot as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp won 9-4 over the Norfolk Tides Tuesday night at Harbor Park.
The Jumbo Shrimp (65-67, 33-25) didn't take long to get the offense going in the top of the first. With one out, Amaya (12) blasted a solo home run off Norfolk starter Justin Armbruester (L, 2-3).
After two scoreless frames, Jacksonville added to their lead in the top of the fourth. Amaya (13) started the inning with his second home run of the day to increase the lead to 2-0. Two batters later, Dane Myers reached on an error charged to Norfolk shortstop Jackson Holliday. After a groundout, Peyton Burdick whacked a base hit, scoring Myers from second to make it a 3-0 advantage for the Jumbo Shrimp.
Norfolk struck in the bottom of the fourth. Heston Kjerstad (10) socked a solo home run off Jumbo Shrimp starter Daniel Castano (W, 5-1) to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Jacksonville blew the game open in the top of the fifth. With one out, Charles Leblanc and Jake Mangum singled. Amaya smacked a single up the middle, scoring Leblanc to push the lead to 4-1. Johnston (7) followed with a mammoth three-run homer to give Jacksonville a 7-1 lead.
Castano had a fantastic outing for Jacksonville. He twirled six strong innings, tying a season-high with seven strike outs. It was the fifth consecutive start for him, going at least five innings.
The Tides drew close in the bottom of the fifth. Lewin Díaz (16) led off the inning with a solo shot to make it 7-2. Josh Lester singled in the next at-bat and Ramón Rodriguez walked. Holliday walked to load the bases and Colton Cowser hit a sac fly cutting the deficit to four.
Norfolk added their final run in the seventh. With one out, Holliday doubled, and went to third on a single from Cowser. Norby hit a sac fly scoring Holliday to make it a three-run contest.
The Jumbo Shrimp put the nail in the coffin in the ninth. Amaya and Johnston started the frame with consecutive walks. After a strikeout and fly out, Burdick smacked a two-run triple to push the lead back up to five, 9-4.
The Jumbo Shrimp and Tides continue their series Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. RHP Chi Chi González (6-9, 6.16 ERA) gets the ball for Jacksonville and Norfolk will counter with LHP John Means (1-0, 0.96 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on Bally Live, MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 and www.ESPN690.com.
