Schaumburg Boomers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - With a run already across in the ninth inning, the Schaumburg Boomers got the tying run to the plate but could not get any closer as Chicagoland's newest professional team fell to the Washington Wild Things by a score of 7-5 Saturday.

Chad Mozingo led off the home half of the ninth with a triple to the right field corner and scored a batter later on a Nate Baumann RBI-single, but the Boomers would come no closer in a 7-5 defeat at the hands of the Wild Things (17-29). Chris Smith picked up his fourth win of the season for the Wild Things and Orlando Santos collected his first save for Washington after allowing a run on three hits over the game's final two innings.

All-Star Pitcher Cameron Roth allowed four runs in the first two innings to the Wild Things after the visitors collected three doubles and an RBI-single off the Schaumburg southpaw. However the Boomers battled back to tie the score in the fourth on a Mozingo two-out, two-RBI double before a single tally in the fifth on a Rick Devereaux single with two outs and a pair of insurance runs in the eighth put Washington in front for good.

The two hottest hitters in the Schaumburg lineup carried the offensive output with Mozingo going 3-4 with a double, triple and three runs batted in, while raising his batting average to .304 and Frank Pfister adding a pair of hits including a double, an RBI and a run scored. Sean Mahley also scored a pair of runs for the Boomers after reaching base three times.

The Boomers look to close out the first of their Inaugural Season on a high note with a win in the rubber match against the Wild Things Sunday as Schaumburg's Robby Donovan (5-2, 3.52) will oppose RHP Gary Lee (3-3, 2.27) for Washington.
