The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, battled back and forth with Schaumburg, finishing with a 7-5 victory. Washington took game two of the three game series, their last before the All-Star Break.

The Wild Things jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first. Second baseman Shain Stoner ripped a two-out single, which was followed by an RBI double by catcher Rick Devereaux. Devereaux finished the evening going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Schaumburg responded quickly with a one-out RBI double by shortstop Frank Pfister. Pfister would later score on an RBI single by left fielder Chad Mozingo.

Schaumburg led 2-1 after one.

The scoring continued in the top of the second, as Washington put up a three spot to regain the lead. Andrew Heck smashed a double to right center field, scoring Michael Bando and Doug Thennis. Newly acquired AJ Nunziato followed with an RBI single driving in Heck from second. Nunziato, who joined the Wild Things Friday, recorded his first RBI as a Wild Thing. Washington went up 4-2.

The Boomers answered yet again in the bottom of the third inning. A two-run double gave Mozingo three RBIs on the night, and more importantly, tied the game at 4-4. Starter Chris Smith worked efficiently with seven strong innings, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks. Smith also fanned eight, and picked up his fourth win of the season.

Back and forth they went, as Washington retook the lead in the top of the fifth. Devereaux added his second RBI of the game on a two-out single, driving home Nunziato to make it 5-4 Wild Things.

Cameron Roth, the starter for the Boomers, gave up five runs over seven innings. Roth allowed four hits, while surrendering four walks, as the Wild Things handed Roth his third loss of the season.

The scoring settled down until the eighth inning when Washington attempted to extend their lead. A leadoff walk by Devereaux set things up for the Wild Things. Pinch hitter Johnathan Erb followed with a sharp single up the middle to put runners at first and second. Will Arnold drew a walk to load the bases. An error by Pfister allowed one run in, and Heck smashed an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-4.

Reliever Orlando Santos replaced Smith in the eighth and produced a scoreless inning, taking Washington to the ninth with a three run lead.

Santos started off the ninth on the mound, but allowed a leadoff triple to Mozingo. Designated hitter Nate Baumann followed with an RBI single, cutting the washington lead to two runs. Santos settled down, getting the batter to ground into a fielder's choice. From there, Santos was in complete control, getting the next two batters to fly out to Stoner and seal the victory.
