Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL)- After breaking their six-game home losing streak on Friday at Silver Cross Field, the Slammers fell back off the horse in game two with the Normal CornBelters in a 6-4 loss.

Normal got things started right away with two runs in the first inning, one scoring on fielding error, and the other on an RBI single by Sam Judah, one of three hits he picked up. Joliet tied things up at two in the fourth on a botched double play by Normal and an RBI single by Matt Mirabal.

The fifth inning, however, was unkind to Joliet. Four runs came across for Normal courtesy of singles by Judah and Chico Gomez, while Tyler Wisemeyer walked with the bases loaded. Brian Smith entered in relief but injured himself before he completed an at-bat, while Sean Estand hurt himself diving after a ground ball. Daniel Carela later injured himself in relief, as well.

The Slammers bounced back in the home half when Patrick Norris tagged a leadoff homer for his first hit as a Joliet Slammer. They added another to the comeback in the eighth when Norris reached on a fielder's choice and David Fox came around to score, giving the game its final 6-4 tally.

Joliet burned through six pitchers once again, with Jim Schult taking the loss on six runs and hits through four and two-thirds innings.

The Slammers complete the 2012 season's first half Sunday, hosting the last-place Normal CornBelters at 2:05 before heading into the All-Star Break. Fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
