Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL)- The Slammers broke another four-game skid on Friday night at Silver Cross Field with bats firing on all cylinders in a 9-2 win over the last-place Normal CornBelters.

Erik Lis put Joliet ahead in the home half of the first on a deep solo home run to make it 1-0. Joliet tacked on another four runs on to the lead in the third inning when Lis and Abel Nieves brought in two runs each to make it 5-0. In the fifth, with the bases loaded, Josh Lyon hit a sacrifice fly to give the Slammers a six-run lead.

Normal showed signs of life in the seventh inning on a quick rally off a Yasel Gomez RBI single that brought two runs across.

But it was Jacob Sanchez that made waves in his professional debut, tossing six shutout innings for Joliet while giving up just five hits and fanning three. Daniel Carela, Geoff Brown, Chase Doremus, and Amalio Diaz finished off the contest on the hill.

The Slammers continue the homestand Saturday, continuing on with the last-place Normal CornBelters at 6:05 before heading into the All-Star Break. Fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
