Miners Get Complete Effort in Win

July 7, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Southern Illinois Miners News Release

Avon, OH - The Southern Illinois Miners defeated the Lake Erie Crushers 2-1. Miners starter Dave Harden pitched a complete game, his first of the season to improve to 6-1. Harden gave up four hits and one run. He walked one batter and struck out four.

The Miners scored first in the top of the third inning off Crushers starter Josh Rickards as Darian Sandford scored to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. The Miners scored another run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead as Sandford scored off an error by Crushers catcher Brian Erie. Sandford had three stolen bases on the evening.

The Crushers scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning off a triple and RBI by right fielder Robby Kuzdale to cut the Miners lead to 2-1. That would be the only inning Harden would allow more than one batter on in an inning. The Miners would hold on and win the game 2-1.

With the win, the Miners improve to 28-19 and move to within three games of Traverse City. The Miners and Crushers wrap up the three game set tomorrow evening at All Pro Freight Stadium with a 4:05 pm first pitch. The Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show with Mike Ventola begins at 3:45 pm.
