Rascals Lose 1-0

July 7, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
River City Rascals News Release

Crestwood, Ill. - It was a pitchers dual to say the least. Windy City all-star Mike Recchia (6-2) tossed a shutout while holding the Rascals to two hits while River City starter Preston Vancil (2-5) went inning for inning in a complete game loss.

Curran Redal singled to start the game and moved to second on a walk to Doug Sanders, Recchia would not allow another hit until the eighth inning, pitching around three walks on the night en-route to his third shutout this season, stranding all four Rascals base runners in scoring position.

Vancil was nearly as good, striking out four in eight innings; his only blemish a leadoff walk in the fourth that scored following two singles and a sacrifice. Vancil faced three over the minimum the rest of the way, but Recchia struck out 10 to increase his league-lead to 80.

Chris Andreas had the other Rascals hit, a single to start the eighth, but he was stranded at second.

River City and Windy City square off in the rubber game of the series tomorrow with first pitch set for 5:05CT.
