Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Sebastian Valle hit two home runs, and Jarred Cosart won his team-leading seventh start as the BlueClaws cruised to an 11-3 win Monday night.
Valle's first homer was a deep two-run shot to the picnic area in left-center field to make it a 4-0 game. He followed that up with his sixth homer of the season, a three-run blast to dead center to make it an 11-3 ballgame.
Valle drove in five runs total, and had the first multi-home run game for Lakewood since Jake Blalock hit three on May 20, 2004.
While the BlueClaws (34-25) offense went to work, Jarred Cosart (7-1) shut down Greensboro's (27-32) bats, striking out seven in 6 solid innings of work.
Anthony Hewitt brought in the first run of the game in the second on an RBI ground out. The BlueClaws then jumped to a 6-0 advantage in the fourth scoring five times.
Leandro Castro plated the first tally of the inning on an RBI triple, followed by Valle's first home run of the night. Alan Schoenberger added two more to the board on a two-run double to make it 6-0.
Cosart had allowed just two hits heading into the sixth inning protecting the big lead, but surrendered two runs on three hits to bring the score to 6-2. Greensboro scored again in the seventh to get within three prior to the BlueClaws breaking the game open in the bottom half of the inning with five more runs.
The BlueClaws loaded the bases with one out, and a Jonathan Singleton base hit scored two for an 8-3 Lakewood lead. Valle then hit his second homer to conclude the scoring at 11-3.
Grasshoppers starter Curtis Peterson (2-6) got chased after just 3.2 innings, giving up six runs on six hits.
After Hickory lost earlier in the day Lakewood is now once again just one game back of first place in the South Atlantic League North.
Tuesday night at 7:05 pm the homestand and the series wraps up with BlueClaws RHP Brody Colvin (3-6, 5.63) going head-to-head with LHP Chad James (1-3, 5.65).
