Charleston RiverDogs News Release
The Charleston RiverDogs, Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees, will host their 11th Annual "Kindness Beats Blindness RP Auction" at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
With all proceeds going to the Medical University of South Carolina's (MUSC) Storm Eye Institute and their on-going fight to prevent the loss of sight, the RiverDogs' silent and live auctions will be held Saturday, June 26th. The auction begins when the gates open at 6 p.m. and concludes at the bottom of the 6th inning.
There will be an abundance of specialty gifts and services available including spa retreats, tickets to a Broadway show and a stay at the Ritz Carlton. There will also be the use of an Edisto Island beach house, fine jewelry, Kiawah Island packages and a 7-day cruise for 2 from MSC Cruises, to name a few.
There will also be various sports memorabilia, including a 2003 Hall of Fame Induction Autographed Bat, an autographed Dale Murphy jersey and a Bill Murray autographed front page of the Post & Courier from Opening Day 2010, among many more.
All fans that enter the ballpark are eligible to bid on the various goods and services. More than $373,000 has been donated to the Storm Eye Institute to help fight Retinitis Pigmentosa, a disease that causes blindness and that has affected Rebecca Veeck, the daughter of RiverDogs President Mike Veeck.
"We put a lot of effort and emphasis into this annual auction because we firmly believe in the cause," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. "Blindness hits us hard because of Rebecca, and we are trying to do our part to fight this disease that affects so many. Hopefully, raising needed funds for research will help prevent this terrible disease."
Additionally, the first 1,000 fans through the gates on Saturday will receive a baseball card set, courtesy of WCBD-TV2
