Blackhawks Recall Ben Smith from Rockford

Chicago, Ill.- The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Friday that the National Hockey League club has recalled winger Ben Smith from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

Smith, 22, has recorded four points (G, 3A) in eight tilts with Rockford this year in his first full professional season, including netting the IceHogs' only shorthanded goal of the campaign. The Avon, Connecticut, native was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2010 Frozen Four while helping Boston College to the 2010 NCAA Championship and serving as an alternate captain in his senior season with the Eagles.

The Blackhawks will host the Edmonton Oilers at the United Center on Friday, October 29 at 7:30 P.M.

Smith is the fourth player to get recalled from Rockford to Chicago this season joining Brandon Pirri, Jassen Cullimore and Evan Brophey. Rockford has had 27 different players recalled to the Blackhawks over the past four seasons.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Nov. 6 vs. Manitoba Moose. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. The first 2,500 fans to the game will receive an IceHogs baseball cap courtesy of Pepsi, WXRX and WIFR.
