Buffalo Bisons News Release

BUFFALO, NY - On a rare weekday matinée from Sahlen Field, the Buffalo Bisons fell to the St. Paul Saints 7-1 on Thursday afternoon.

Jake Elliott got the spot start for the Bisons and threw two shutout innings before handing things off to Nick Allgeyer. The southpaw wound up going three frames and allowed one run, an RBI single by Roy Morales which opened the scoring in the third.

The Bisons were stifled by Saints starter and Mississauga, ON native Jordan Balazovic, who went three shutout innings while facing the minimum, walking none and punching out three in the process. Balazovic is currently the top pitching prospect in the Twins organization and ranks third overall behind Royce Lewis and Austin Martin.

The Herd got to Wladimir Pinto in the fourth when Samad Taylor scored from first on an RBI double by Stevie Berman to tie the game up at one, but the bats quickly cooled down once Dereck Rodríguez entered and threw four innings of one-hit ball.

The Saints would then break the tie in the seventh when Spencer Steer crushed a three-run homer off of Bowden Francis to go up by three, knocking him out of the game shortly after. Derek Holland came in to try and put the fire out, but gave up another three-run homer, this one to Caleb Hamilton, to put the Saints up 7-1.

The Bisons recorded just five hits on the day, two of which belonged to Taylor; he has now gone 7-11 with three homers, a double, six RBIs, and five runs through the first three games of this series.

Despite a leadoff single in the ninth, a third straight comeback effort was not in the cards for the Bisons as Austin Schulfer finished things off for St. Paul.

The Bisons and Saints will continue their series tomorrow night, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. EST.
