Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY- Reds' rehabber Nick Lodolo dominated through four scoreless innings as the Louisville Bats (25-43) defeated the Iowa Cubs (32-36) by a score of 3-0 on Thursday night at Louisville Slugger Field.
Both pitching staffs were dialed in from the first pitch, as each offense was only able to muster five combined hits through the first seven and a half innings, all without getting a baserunner past second base.
Cincinnati rehabber Nick Lodolo (0-0, 3.00) dazzled in his second rehab start of the season with the Bats, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and collecting five punchouts without issuing a free pass.
Iowa starter Robert Gsellman (1-3, 4.61) also brought his A-game, going five full innings while allowing just a pair of hits and striking out three.
Louisville was finally able to break through in the home half of the seventh, when Colin Moran notched his second double of the day, this time with Cristian Santana on first base who was able to take advantage of the ball that was hit deep into the left-center field gap and scored from first.
Freshly minted Louisville Bat Stuart Fairchild tacked on one more run in the inning, when he laced a base hit to center field with two outs, scoring Colin Moran from second base, and giving Louisville a 2-0 advantage.
Louisville added one more insurance run in the eighth when Jose Barrero brought home Lorenzo Cedrola with a sacrifice fly to the warning track in left, pushing the Louisville lead to 3-0.
Louisville completed their fifth shutout win of the season with five relievers finishing the contest, each working one inning and combining for eight strikeouts.
Game four of the six game series between the Bats and the Cubs is scheduled for Friday night (June 24), with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Randy Wynne (1-8, 4.87) will get the ball for Louisville, while the starter for Iowa has yet to be announced.
