LAST TIME OUT

TOLEDO, OH (June 22, 2022) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders dropped game two of the series to the Toledo Mud Hens by a 4-3 final on Wednesday. SWB has now lost 14 of their 24 one-run games this season.

Jhony Brito made his fourth RailRiders start and surrendered a couple of hard-hit balls and three unanswered runs in his 6.2 innings of work. An interference scored a run in the third, a Brendon Davis solo shot in the fourth and a fielder's choice brought the Toledo lead to 3-0.

The RailRiders mounted a comeback in the later innings. A Jake Bauers' sacrifice fly brought home Oswald Peraza and Derek Dietrich tripled home Miguel Andújar. Oswald Peraza hit a hard grounder to third that skipped into left to plate Ronald Guzmán in the seventh to tie the game at three.

Akil Baddoo had gone 0-for-7 in the series prior to driving in the eventual game-winning run with a double in the bottom of the seventh. The RailRiders had the tying run at second for the second straight night in the ninth, but a double play ended the game.

Miguel Diaz (4-2) tallied the victory for Toledo. Brito (1-1) was handed his first Triple-A loss. Derek Law (14) recorded the final three outs and locked down his second save in as many days.

NEWS & NOTES

FIRST THINGS FIRST - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders are in Toldeo, Ohio for the first time since May 19, 2019. They split a four-game series with the Toledo Mud Hens in that series. This six-game series is the only time these two teams meet this season. This is also currently the furthest Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has traveled this season. Fifth Third Field is 479 miles away from PNC Field.

WHO DAT - The Mud Hens, Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, are the first International League West team the RailRiders face this season. They find themselves in fourth place in the West division entering Thursday, three and a half games back of Nashville. After losing eight of nine, the Mud Hens have won eleven of their last fourteen games since June 5.

WEB HEAD - The Yankees signed Ryan Weber to a Minor League contract on Wednesday after his brief stint in the show, replacing Luis Severino after he was placed on the COVID-IL last week. Weber has been assigned to the RailRiders where he's made eight appearances. He is slated to pitch in front of Matt Krook on Friday night.

SO LONG, PARTNER - Today, the Yankees announced that David McKay has been traded to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations. McKay made 17 appearances for the RailRiders this season to the tune of a 2.91 ERA and 1.20 WHIP, last appearing for SWB on June 19 against Rochester. In a corresponding move, the recently acquired Albert Abreu was added to the active MLB roster.

PITA HOT - Matt Pita was activated from the injured list Tuesday. Pita has not appeared in a game since May 12, putting him on the IL for 39 days. At the time of his injury, Pita led the team in home runs (4) in 19 games played. He played 27 games for the RailRiders in 2021.

KEN YOU DIG IT - Ken Waldichuk looks to pace the RailRiders to their first win of the series tonight. Waldichuk is coming off his worst outing of the season against Rochester last week. It lasted just 3.2 innings, which is his shortest of the year. Prior to that start, he had lasted at least five innings in six straight starts, never allowing more than one earned run in any of those outings.

WIZARD OF OS - Oswald Peraza finds himself on a six-game hitting streak and a seven-game on-base streak. The six-gamer matches a season-high for him, something he set from April 28 to May 5. During this stretch, he is 11-for-26 (.423) with a pair of homers and a double. The last time Peraza did not tally a hit in a game was on June 10 against Syracuse.

STREAKY - Greg Bird has a four-game hitting streak... Tim Locastro and Miguel Andújar have three-game hitting streaks... Zach Greene has made five-straight scoreless appearances... Greg Weissert has made four-straight scoreless outings... Jimmy Cordero has three-straight scoreless outings (four of five games this season)...

TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT - The RailRiders lost Tuesday's opener in Toledo 3-2, then game two 4-3. In one run ball games this season, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is 10-14. Their last six games have been decided by three runs or less (2-4). In games where the decision is finalized by three runs or less, the RailRiders are 19-24 this year.

HOW MANY HITS YA GOT? NOT A LOT - The Mud Hens tallied just four hits in Tuesday's opener. It was one more than the fewest hits allowed in any nine-inning game this season for the RailRiders pitching staff. Three times this year the staff has surrendered just three hits. Strangely enough, the RailRiders are 1-2 in those three games.

ON DECK - The RailRiders return home on Tuesday, June 28 to face the Buffalo Bisons. It's "Twosday" at PNC Field. Get 2-for-1 lawn or bleacher seats online only and enjoy $2 Landshark Lager tallboys for two hours after gates open, presented by PrimoHoagies and The River.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION - The New York Yankees (51-18) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 on Wednesday. Aaron Judge homered twice in the contest. He has six multi-homer games this season. Jameson Taillon takes on Framber Valdez tonight at 7:05 PM... The Somerset Patriots (41-24) lost 9-5 in extra innings to the Hartford Yard Goats. Brandon Lockridge hit his fifth home run of the season in a losing effort. Sean Boyle takes the ball tonight looking to be the stopper at 7:05 PM... Matt Sauer was stellar on the mound again, leading the Hudson Valley Renegades (33-32) to a 4-3 win over the Winston-Salem Dash. Sauer fired six shutout innings. His season ERA is down to 3.08. Blas Castano is on the mound tonight at 7:00 PM... The Tampa Tarpons (27-38) lost 4-3 to the Clearwater Threshers. Out of their last eight losses, Tampa has lost seven of them by one run. Juan Carela takes the hill tonight at 6:30 PM...
