RHP Connor Grey (3-2, 5.20) vs. RHP Cory Abbott (0-3, 7.58)

BACK TO OUR WINNING WAYS: The Rochester Red Wings evened up the series with their 4-2 Wednesday afternoon win over the Mets' top affiliate...RHP Joan Adon went five strong, allowing just one unearned run on four hits while striking out three...second baseman Jake Noll launched his fifth homer of the year and drove in his 31st run, good for fourth on the Red Wings squad...center fielder Matt Lipka went 2-for-3 with a triple and 7th-inning go-ahead RBI-double...shortstop Ildemaro Vargas and first baseman Joey Meneses contributed with a double of their own in the win...designated hitter Josh Palacios collected the other multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI...RHP Jordan Weems picked up his ninth save of the year, tying him third in the International League...RHP Cory Abbott is set to start tonight's battle in the Duel of the Dishes and will be opposed by St. Bonaventure product, RHP Connor Grey.

DUEL OF THE DISHES: The Rochester Plates have the chance to win the Golden Fork today with a win over the Syracuse Salt Potatoes...after defeating the Salt Potatoes on their turf on May 26th in game one of the series, 9-7, Rochester has a chance to close out the series today...the Plates, having won the Golden Fork in 2018, look to reclaim the esteemed utensil which they lost in the Duel in 2019 as well as in 2021 due to a tie-breaker that went Syracuse's way due to the run-differential determiner...Rochester is 9-2 on Thursday home games in 2022.

LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL: In the first five games following losing streaks that consist of at least seven consecutive losses, dating back to 2008 (9 separate skids), the Wings post a 28-17 record...since 2008, Rochester's series record in the first complete series following these skids is 3-3-3...since the most recent skid (6/7-6/15), the Red Wings post a 3-3 record.

ADEALING: RHP Joan Adon had a bounce-back start following a rough outing at Saint Paul...the 23-year-old went five innings, allowing zero earned runs on just four hits...Adon's four strikeouts against Syracuse puts him at 12.3 K/9 in three career appearances with the Wings (11 IP/ 15 Ks).

NOLL'S NUKE: Second baseman Jake Noll hit a two-out bomb to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth...the home run was Noll's fifth of the year and second versus Syracuse this season...the Red Wings improved to 27-9 in games where they hit a homer this year.

THE VIPER STRIKES: Center fielder Matt Lipka went 2-for-3 with a triple, double, and an RBI...yesterday's game was Lipka's first with multiple extra-base hits this season...Lipka's double down the left field line to score Ildemaro Vargas would be the game-winning RBI for the Wings...Lipka has tripled and doubled in the same game at the Triple-A level once before as a member of the Gwinnett Braves against Charlotte on 7/9/16...Lipka accomplished this feat while accomplishing a bigger feat in 2019 as the 2010 high-school draftee hit for the cycle as a member of the Trenton Thunder against Redding on July 11 at the Double-A level...Lipka also accomplished this once in High-A with Lynchburg (ATL) and once in the Gulf Coast League (ATL).

CAN I GET A MARTINA?: Third baseman Junior Martina collected his first-career Triple-A hit with a third inning single to the left side of the infield...Martina was assigned to the Wings from the Florida Complex League on June 19.

FOURARMS: RHP Mason Thompson made a rehab appearance for the Red Wings, retiring the side in order after relieving Adon in the 6th...RHP Curtis Taylor came in the seventh and allowed only one run...since making his Triple-A debut on June 17, Taylor has given up one run in three outings...LHP Alberto Baldonado pitched the eighth inning, striking out the side for the second time in his last four outings (6/11 at STP)...RHP Jordan Weems came in the ninth and picked up the save, his ninth of the year...Weems now has the third-most saves in the International League and six more than any other Red Wing.

SUPER ILDE-MARIO: After going 1-for-3 with a double in Wednesday's win over Syracuse, shortstop Ildemaro Vargas now has a hit in seven-straight games, batting .360 (9-for-25) during that span with a home run, four doubles, and five RBI...Vargas has recorded a hit in 11 of his last 13 games...the switch-hitter also has five of his nine doubles on the season during the 13-game stretch.

NO K-ZONE: The Red Wings struck out in just six of 32 ABs (18.75%) yesterday in the win over Syracuse...Rochester is batting just .236 (142-for-602) in June, ranking T-27th out of 30 teams in Triple-A...despite their struggles to collect hits this month, the Wings are still putting the ball in play, striking out just 136 times in 627 plate appearances (21.6%), good for the fewest punch outs in all of Triple-A since June 1.

COME ON CORY: RHP Cory Abbott will get the start for the Red Wings today as they look to take a 2-1 series lead over Syracuse...Abbott has pitched in nine games for Rochester since being claimed off waivers from the Giants organization on May 4...he has a 9.00 ERA (13 IP/ 13 ER) with the Wings and is averaging 12.5 K/9 (13 IP/18 K)...in his last start against Syracuse (5/25 w/ ROC) the righty allowed four earned runs in 2.1 innings of work, three of his runs allowed came via a first-inning bomb from DH Daniel Palka.

SLIPPERY: During the Red Wings' 3-11 skid, Rochester is batting just .209 (23-for-110) with runners-in-scoring-position...prior to the Wings' slump, the team was batting .286 (151-for-528) with RISP and were 16 games over .500, posting a 35-19 record, their best winning percentage of the year...the Wings currently rank third in the International League with RISP (.273 1744-for-638)...their once .286 average would currently stand as the league's top mark but instead the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (.277, 159-for-572) rank first.
