Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins have announced that third baseman Brian Anderson has been assigned to Jacksonville to begin an injury rehabilitation assignment. Anderson is expected to play for the Jumbo Shrimp against the Durham Bulls in game three of the series on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. from 121 Financial Ballpark.

Anderson was placed on the 10-day IL on June 1 (retroactive to May 28). Thus far in 2022, he has played 32 games with the Miami Marlins, slashing .267/.374/.410/.784 with two home runs and six RBIs.

This marks his second rehab assignment with Jacksonville. He last rehabbed in 2021, spending five games with the Jumbo Shrimp.

Prior to last year, he last played with the Jumbo Shrimp in two stints when they were members of the Double-A Southern League in 2016-2017. In 2016, he played in 86 games with Jacksonville, slashing .243/.330/.359/.689 with eight home runs and 40 runs batted in. In 2017, he played in 87 games, slashing .251/.341/.450/.791 with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs.

He was originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 20th round in the 2011 MLB draft from Deer Creek High School in Edmund, Oklahoma, but he opted to play baseball with the University of Arkansas. The Marlins selected Anderson in the third round of the 2014 MLB draft, and he made his major league debut with Miami on September 1, 2017, going 1-3 in his debut. In six seasons with the Marlins, Anderson hit .263 in 465 games with 99 doubles, seven triples, 51 home runs, and 211 RBIs.

Anderson is the third player in 2022 to join Jacksonville on a rehab assignment following LHP Richard Bleier, who rehabbed with the Jumbo Shrimp on May 22, and RHP Dylan Floro, who rehabbed with the Jumbo Shrimp from April 30-May 9.
