Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Despite loading the bases in the bottom of the ninth, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp stranded the bases loaded and were shut out by the Durham Bulls 2-0 in front of 7,068 fans in attendance Thursday night at 121 Financial Ballpark.
The Durham Bulls (37-32) drew first blood in the top of the third. Joe Hudson started the inning with a walk and two batters later, Wander Franco walked to put two runners on. After a pop out, Ryan Boldt singled against Jacksonville starter Elieser Hernandez (L, 2-1), scoring Hudson from second to put Durham ahead 1-0.
The Bulls added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning. With a full count, Jim Haley (12) smacked a solo home run, giving Durham a 2-0 lead.
Jacksonville (37-32) loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Durham closer Javy Guerra struck out the final two batters to earn his third save of the season.
Hernández set a season-high with eight strikeouts. He finished pitching 4.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts. Jake Fishman and Tommy Eveld also had strong pitching performances, combining for three scoreless innings with three walks and two strikeouts.
Jacksonville continues their series with Durham Friday at 7:05 p.m. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN 690, espn690.com and MiLB.tv.
