Iowa Cubs News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY - The Iowa Cubs (32-36) recorded just six hits, falling to the Louisville Bats (25-43) by a score of 3-0, Thursday at Louisville Slugger Field.

Both offenses were silenced early on, as starters Robert Gsellman and Nick Lodolo battled each other pitch-for-pitch. Gsellman spun five strong innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three, while Lodolo spun four innings of two-hit ball, striking out five.

The Bats' bullpen kept the strong pitching going through the middle innings, with three pitchers each throwing a scoreless inning. The three relievers combined to allow just one hit while striking out four. On the other side, Iowa got a scoreless sixth inning from Brendon Little, but he couldn't keep the game tied in his second inning of work.

With his second double of the game, Colin Moran drove in Cristian Santana to score the Louisville's first run. Later that inning, a two-out RBI single off the bat of Stuart Fairchild extended their lead.

Trailing 2-0 entering the eighth, Iowa had their first real threat of the night, when back-to-back singles put runners on first and third with two outs. Unfortunately for Iowa, Matt Pidich induced a fly out to get out of the inning, keeping the game at 2-0.

Louisville added an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth to grow their lead to 3-0, and despite a leadoff single from Narciso Crook, Buck Farmer recorded the final three outs of the game to earn the Bats their first win of the series.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- Robert Gsellman threw 78% (45-of-58) of his pitches for strikes tonight, allowing just two base runners through his five innings of work.

- Iowa's offense mustered just six singles tonight, with no extra-base hits or walks. They struck out 13 times, marking the second consecutive game with 11+ strikeouts.

- Darius Hill extended his hitting streak to a season-long nine games with his single in the seventh inning. Over his nine-game streak, he is hitting .475 (19-for-40).

Iowa and Louisville will play game four of their six-game set tomorrow, with first pitch set for 6:05 CT at Louisville Slugger Field. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
