WORCESTER, M.A. - An eighth inning RBI double by Christin Stewart pushed the Worcester Red Sox (35-34) to their fourth straight win, a 4-3 victory over the Charlotte Knights (25-44) on Thursday night at Polar Park.

It was a 3-3 game entering the bottom of the eighth inning-Jaylin Davis led off with an infield single to put the go-ahead run on base. Christin Stewart was next and turned on a 3-1 pitch, whistling a line drive down the right field line. By the time the relay reached the plate, Davis was sliding across the plate with the go-ahead run, capping off an RBI double that would ultimately win the game for the WooSox.

Charlotte put two on in the top of the ninth, but WooSox closer Kaleb Ort struck out Blake Rutherford to seal the 4-3 win.

On the mound, Josh Taylor got the start in his second Major League rehab appearance of the week. The left-hander tossed a scoreless frame, a 19-pitch first inning in which he allowed a bloop single and a walk, but got a strike out to end the inning.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning, when the WooSox put runners on first and second for Yolmer Sanchez. He saw one pitch go by, then crushed the next one he saw for a three-run home run, a ball that landed on the berm in left to make it 3-0.

Sanchez' swing ups his home run total to eight and gives the 29-year-old his 20th extra-base-hit.

Half an inning later, Charlotte answered with its first rally of the series-working against Worcester bulk reliever Kutter Crawford, the Knights plated runs on a two-run double by Micker Adolfo and a game-tying sac-fly from Ryder Jones.

Crawford finished the day with the following line: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. The pair of unearned runs came on two errors from Crawford himself.

Eduard Bazardo, Durbin Feltman and Ort followed, combining to hold the Knights scoreless over the final three innings. Ort notched his 10th save of the season, tying him for second-most in the International League.

Stewart's double in the eighth improved Worcester's record in one run games to 11-8; 31 of the team's 69 games have been decided by two runs or fewer.

In his first game since his Major League debut last night, Jeter Downs went 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base.

The WooSox continue the six-game series at Polar Park on Friday at 6:45 p.m. against the Charlotte Knights, affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. On the mound, Connor Seabold (5-1, 1.95) gets the start for Worcester. Radio coverage is live at 6:25 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network, while television coverage is on NESN+.
