
Bonifacio Provides First Walk-off Win

(Allentown, PA) - Jorge Bonifacio hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning against Cole Uvila (2-4) to give the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (38-31) a 7-6 win over the Norfolk Tides (33-36) on Thursday evening.
Terrin Vavra led off the game with a home run against Michael Plassmeyer in the top of the first inning to give Norfolk a 1-0 lead. The home run for Vavra was his first of the season. The Pigs took a 2-1 lead against Cody Sedlock in the bottom of the first inning. Darick Hall hit an RBI single that scored Mickey Moniak and Drew Maggi scored on a throwing error by catcher Jacob Nottingham.
Lehigh Valley scored four more runs against Sedlock in the bottom of the second inning to extend their lead to 6-1. Edgar Cabral hit an RBI double that scored Daniel Robertson. Moniak hit a two-run home run in the following at-bat and Bonifacio hit a sacrifice fly that scored Maggi.
Norfolk scored two runs against Plassmeyer in the top of the third inning as Jordan Westburg hit a two-run home run that cut the 'Pigs lead to 6-3. Kyle Stowers hit a sacrifice fly against Corey Oswalt that scored Westburg and put the Tides within two runs, 6-4. Stowers scored on a wild pitch by Michael Kelly in the top of the seventh inning and Nottingham scored on a throwing error by Cabral to see the game tied at 6-6.
Tyler Cyr pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, while striking out two batters. Mark Appel (5-0) earned the win by pitching a scoreless top of the ninth inning for Lehigh Valley.
The IronPigs and Norfolk Tides continue their series on Friday evening. First pitch on is at 7:05 p.m.
