Peoria Rivermen News Release

Rockford, Ill. (November 21, 2008) - Ben Bishop stopped all 16 shots he faced in the third period to help the Peoria Rivermen beat the Rockford IceHogs 3-1 at the MetroCentre on Friday night. He finished with 30 saves on 31 shots and earned the No. 1 star of the game.

None of the goals in the game were scored at even-strength as Peoria scored a shorthanded goal, a power-play goal and an empty-netter while the IceHogs lone tally came on the power play. The win put the Rivermen alone in second place, just three points behind Chicago in the West Division.

Nicholas Drazenovic opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 6:53 of the first period. On a two-on-one with Chris Conner out in front of him, Drazenovic maneuvered his way to the front of the net and then beat Annti Niemi with a forehand move for his fourth goal of the season. It was the fourth shorthanded goal of the season for Peoria, however two have them have been scored on empty nets.

The IceHogs did not squander their second power-play opportunity as Jack Skille blasted a slapshot past Bishop from just inside the left circle to tie the game at 11:29. Danny Grouix and Petri Kontiola earned assists on the play.

Alex Imbeault broke a 1-1 tie with a power-play goal midway through the second period in his first game with the Rivermen. He was signed to a P.T.O from Alaska (ECHL) prior to the game and was appearing in just his 13th career AHL game. Imbeault beat Niemi on a wraparound at 7:47 of the second period for the eventual game-winner. Josh Soares and Jim Jackson set up Imbeault behind the net.

Bishop took over in the third period as the IceHogs outshot the Rivermen 16-4 in the final 20 minutes but were held off the board. With the extra attacker on the ice, Drazenovic and Chris Porter forced the puck up the ice and Conner finished it off with his 10th goal of the season.

Conner has now scored a goal in six-straight games, matching him for the longest in the AHL this season.

The Rivermen were outshot 31-19 in the game. It was the lowest shot total of the season for Peoria while it was the first time since Oct. 12 (14 games) that the Rivermen had allowed 30 shots in a game.
