Bergeron returns to lineup in strong fashion
November 8, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins begin the week in sixth place in the Atlantic Division with their 3-4-1-2 record (9 points). The Bruins are coming off a weekend of road games in Norfolk and Hershey, and ended the trip with a 4-3 victory on Sunday over the Hershey Bears in Pennsylvania. The Black and Gold continues to get key contributions from its special teams. The power play unit leads the AHL with a 25.5% success rate (13/51), and scored the tying and winning goals on the man-advantage on Sunday. The penalty killing unit, meanwhile, ranks fifth in the league at 88.5% (46/52).
Bruin center Patrice Bergeron keyed the team's win on Sunday by scoring two goals and adding an assist. Bergeron tied the game at 1-1 with a first period goal, before assisting on Andy Hilbert's tying goal early in the third period. He followed that up by potting the game-winner on a power play goal later in the third period. Bergeron, 19, ranks third on the team with 3-4-7 totals in seven games. He was the youngest player in the NHL in 2003-04, and posted 16-23-39 totals in 71 games with the Boston Bruins.
Bergeron will be a featured guest on "Providence Bruins Weekly Presented by National City Mortgage". The show will air on Tuesday, November 9 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on WSKO AM-790, The Score. Adam Alper hosts the show, which will also feature discussions with Bruins head coach Scott Gordon and Providence-Journal beat writer Joe McDonald.
Bruin forward Andy Hilbert is making a climb up the franchise record book. The 23-year-old native of Howell, Michigan ranks second on the team with 7-2-9 totals in 10 games. He is now tied for eighth in team history with 140 points in 165 games, putting him 47 points away from passing the late Sergei Zholtok. Zholtok, who passed away last Wednesday, is the all-time leader, with 83-103-186 totals in 196 games from 1992-95. Hilbert is tied for third in goals (71) and also has 69 assists. He is also tied for fourth with 27 power play goals and tied for second with six shorthanded goals.
The Bruins play three games this weekend, beginning on Friday, November 12 at 7:05 p.m., when they host the Hershey Bears at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence.
