
Admirals off to Best Start in Franchise History

OVERALL... The Admirals (8-0-1) enter this week's action leading the AHL's West Division by one point over the Houston Aeros (7-4-1-1) and five points ahead of the San Antonio Rampage (5-5-2-0). The Ads have accumulated at least one point in all nine games this season and are 15-0-1 in the last 16 (.969) dating back to the playoffs.
THE WEEK AHEAD... @SAN ANTONIO...The Admirals have won both meetings in 2004-05 outscoring San Antonio 5-1. Overall, Milwaukee is 7-1 in the last eight and 11-2-1 in the last 14 against the Rampage. At the SBC Center, the Ads have won six straight and are unbeaten at 7-0-1 in the last eight meetings. VS. HOUSTON...The Admirals were 8-1-1-0 against Houston last season, including 3-1-1 in five Bradley Center meetings. Overall, Milwaukee is 8-0-1 in the last nine meetings and 4-1-1 in the last six at the BC.
LEADERS AT A GLANCE...Simon Gamache leads Admirals scorers with eleven points and six goals. Veteran Tony Hrkac and Dan Hamhuis top Milwaukee playmakers with six assists. Timofei Shishkanov leads the AHL with three game-winning goals. Hamhuis and Gamache lead the Admirals in plus/minus rating with a +8. The Admirals rank third among AHL teams averaging 3.56 goals per game and the fifth stingiest defensively allowing only 2.00 goals per contest.
LAST WEEK'S ACTION...The Admirals closed out a perfect a 3-0 week by shutting out the Rampage, 3-0 in San Antonio on Sunday. Gamache scored two goals and Brian Finley stopped all 22 shots. The Ads took a 3-0 lead against the Wolves at the Bradley Center on Friday night and held on for a 5-3 victory. Brandon Segal scored a pair of goals to pace the Ads. On Monday night, Gamache's second goal of the night 3:59 into overtime gave the Admirals a 2-1 victory over the Rampage at the BC. Finley stopped 18 of 19 San Antonio shots.
PENALTY KILLERS...The Admirals penalty killing units have killed all 25 opponents chances through the first four road games. Overall, the Ads lead the AHL in penalty killing through the first nine games successfully killing 60 of 63 opponents' chances (95.2%).
FAST STARTS...The Ads have outscored their adversaries 10-2 in the first period of play and haven't allowed a first period goal since the October 16th game against the Rochester Americans at Nashville. Milwaukee is 5-0 on home ice for only the third time in team history. They opened 1982-83 with a 7-0 mark and were 5-0 during the 1988-89 season. On two other occasions they were unbeaten after five home games, including 3-0-2-0 in 2002-03 and 4-0-1-0 in 1981-82. The 8-0-1 mark after nine games is the best start in team history surpassing the 8-1-0 record during 1988-89.
TWO IN A ROW...Finley enters this week's action with back-to-back road shutouts. He blanked Utah 1-0 on October 29th and followed up with a 3-0 victory in San Antonio on Sunday. It's only the second time an Admirals netminder has accomplished such a feat. Chris Mason registered back-to-back shutouts on 2-11-2001 at Cincinnati and 2-14-2001 at Utah.
PIPE TALK...Finley enters this week's action with a five-game winning streak and leads AHL netminders with seven victories and two shutouts (tied with four others). Last season, Finley won 10 straight games beginning with a 2-1 victory over San Antonio on January 24 and ending with a 3-0 defeat in Manitoba on March 2nd. The 23-year old Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native has a 7-1 record, 1.84 goals against average and a .937 save percentage. Seamus Kotyk was victorious in his only outing this season defeating his former team in Cleveland, 4-3. During 2003-04 the London, Ontario native had a 13-10-5 record, a 2.48 goals against average, a .925 save percentage and one shutout.
GOIN' STREAKIN'...Simon Gamache has six points (5g-1a), while scoring in four straight games. He had a pair of two goal games vs. the Rampage last week, including an OT game winner. Last season, he scored 56 points (23g-33a) in 68 regular season games and was second on the team with 24 points (6g-18a) in 22 playoff games. Andrew Hutchinson has five points (2g-3a) and has scored in four of the last five games, while Hamhuis (0g-3a) has scored in three straight.
LET'S ROCK HUNGER...LAZER 103, Schwan's Foods and the Milwaukee Admirals are teaming up to help rock hunger. Fans bringing non-perishable food to the Saturday, November 13th, 1:30 game vs. Houston will receive a special offer for future Admiral's home games.
