Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. â The Springfield Falcons, American Hockey League affiliate of the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, today announced that the club's scheduled home game versus the Philadelphia Phantoms on Dec. 15 has been relocated to the St. Pete Times Forum, home arena of the Lightning, in Tampa, Florida.
The game will give fans in Tampa a chance to see future Lightning players now skating for the Falcons. The contest will mark the first AHL game ever played at the Times Forum.
"(Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager) Jay (Feaster) and I spoke in general terms this summer about the possibility of relocating a game to Tampa since other AHL teams were doing the same thing," said Falcons president and general manager Bruce Landon. "However, I wanted to wait until our schedule was finalized to see if there was a date that would make sense. The Wednesday, December 15th game would not have been a good draw in Springfield. We also had to wait to find out what the NHL was going to do.
"I am optimistic that this move will help pave the way for a future pre-season game with the Lightning here in Springfield. It will be a great experience for our players. Our season ticket holders will be taken care of and we certainly appreciate their cooperation."
Start time for the game will be 7:30 p.m. The contest will be broadcast in Springfield on The ZONE â Sports Radio 640.
"We are extremely grateful that Bruce Landon has agreed to allow us to relocate this game to Tampa," Feaster said. "While we know it was a very difficult decision due to Bruce's fierce loyalty to his faithful season ticket holders, we hope to repay Bruce and all Falcons fans by returning the favor in the future and having the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning play a pre-season game at the gorgeously remodeled Springfield Civic Center."
In order to make up for the move of the game from the Springfield Civic Center, the Falcons have offered their season ticket holders a couple of different options to compensate them.
Tickets for the game at the new venue will go on sale this Saturday at the McDonald's Box Office at the St. Pete Times Forum. Tickets can also be purchased at Ticketmaster Ticket Centers or online at Ticketmaster.com.
