Moose close out Winnipeg Arena

The Manitoba Moose returned home this past week to play the final two games at the Winnipeg Arena, taking three of four points from the Utah Grizzlies. On Thursday, Alexandre Burrows and Kirill Koltsov scored to lead the Moose to a 2-1 victory and on Saturday, with all the past Arena legends returning one final time the Moose dropped a shootout decision 2-1.

The Moose now head back out on the road for a stretch of three games in three days. They face Cleveland on November 11 and Cincinnati on November 12 and 13.

Cleveland Barons

National City Rink at Gund Arena

The Moose face the Cleveland Barons for the second time this season on Thursday. Manitoba defeated Cleveland 6-4 back on October 16, with Jason King netting a hat trick. Marcel Goc had two goals and one assist that night for the Barons... The Barons have struggled lately, winning only once in their last five outings, a 4-3 overtime win Saturday in Hamilton... Cleveland currently sits last in the seven-team North Division but are only one point out of fourth... Marcel Goc is the team's leading scorer with 12 points (7g, 5a) in 11 games. Patrick Rissmiller is second with 11 points (5g, 6a)... Goaltender Dimitri Patzold has had a strong season so far with a 4-1-1 record, 2.29 GAA and .930 save percentage but his counterpart Nolan Schaefer has struggled mightily with an 0-5-0 record, 5.01 GAA and .852 save percentage.

Cincinnati Mighty Ducks

The Moose face the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks for the first time this season Friday and Saturday... The Mighty Ducks have lost their last three games heading into Friday's contest and have dropped four of their last five overall... Cincinnati sits fifth in the West Division with a 5-5-0-0 record although they started the season 4-1-0-0... Joffrey Lupul is the team's leading scorer with seven points (2g, 5a) in 10 games. Highly touted Stanislav Chistov has struggled early on with only three points (2g, 1a) in 10 games played... Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov has a 4-3-0 record and 2.53 GAA with a .917 save percentage... Backup Frederic Cassivi is 1-2-0 with a 2.69 AA and .902 save percentage. November 17: MTS Centre Home Opener The Manitoba Moose will play their first game in the brand new MTS Centre on Wednesday, November 17th against the St. John's Maple Leafs. Individual tickets are sold out for this event but you can still guarantee yourself seats in the lower bowl for this historic event by calling 987-PUCK and purchasing a ticket package. Prices start at only $12 per seat per game.

MOOSE NOTES

Arena Swan Song: Saturday marked the last hockey game ever to be played at the Winnipeg Arena. In their time at the Arena, the Manitoba Moose compiled a record of 169-120-13-26 in 328 games played. They scored 1083 goals and allowed 946 goals while playing at the Arena in their now nine-year history. Manitoba's next game is Wednesday, November 17th at the new MTS Centre when the Moose host the St. John's Maple Leafs.

Jimmy Stands at 499: While Thursday's game marked the 500th of defenceman Nolan Baumgartner's pro career, Moose forward Jimmy Roy played his 499th career game as a pro Saturday versus the Grizzlies. Roy has played all 499 as a member of the Moose and has scored 84 goals (a Moose record) and added 97 assists for 181 points. Roy has also collected a franchise record 1,142 penalty minutes.

Attendance Record: Saturday also tied the Manitoba Moose all-time attendance record. With a total sell-out of 13,985 in the building, it matched the attendance record set on April 7, 2002 when Manitoba played the Grand Rapids Griffins (5-2 loss). The Moose now sit second in the league in average attendance at 8,562, behind Manchester (8,786).

Five-Game Points Streak: Although the Moose dropped a shootout decision Saturday, they still extended their team points streak to five games. Last season, the most consecutive games the Moose had gaining a point was four games (Feb. 20-25, 2004). Thursday's win gave the Moose a four-game winning streak bettering last season's high of three games set on four separate occasions.

Scoring Leaders: Despite recording no poins this past week, Peter Sarno and Jason King remain tied for the league lead in points with 17 apiece. King is also the league leader in goals with 12, three more than Yanick Lehoux. Sarno still leads the league in assists with 13. King leads the league in shots on goal with 52. Nolan Baumgartner is tied for the league lead in points among defencemen with 12. The Moose still lead the league in total goals scored with 44.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE

Kirill Koltsov

2 GP, 1 G, 1 A, 2 PTS, 4 PIM, +1, 6 SHOTS

The Player of the Week nominee for the Manitoba Moose is defenceman Kirill Koltsov. Over two games played, he scored one goal and added one assist for three points. He also fired six shots on goal, had four penalty minutes and was plus-one. Koltsov scored his second goal of the season November 4 against Utah. On November 6, he assisted on Manitoba's only goal. Koltsov is tied for fourth in overall league scoring among defencemen with nine points. He is also tied for third in assists at his position with seven.
