HERSHEY broke a three-game losing streak Friday, winning at Binghamton against the Senators 1-0 in a shootout at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The win was the second in two tries for the BEARS against the Senators in 2006-07, and kept HERSHEY in a first place tie with Norfolk in the East Division with 59 points.

The game was scoreless after 20 minutes, despite five HERSHEY power plays The BEARS managed to fire 12 shots against Binghamton goaltender Kelly Guard, while Maxime Daigneault only had to stop five Senators shots. The second period featured much of the same, with the BEARS picking up 17 more shots, but Guard made several key saves to keep the game scoreless. HERSHEY'S best scoring chance in the second came just over halfway through, when Alexandre Giroux was denied on a backhand shot at the top of the crease. Binghamton's Guard sprawled out to make the save with his glove hand fully extended. The BEARS and Senators went to the dressing room at Broome County after two periods still scoreless.

The game remained scoreless during the third period and overtime, with the Senators firing 16 shots in the third period at Maxime Daigneault. After a scoreless overtime, the BEARS scored twice in the shootout with goals from Eric Fehr and Kyle Wilson. Binghamton was stopped four consecutive times in the shootout by Daigneault, who earned his 11th win of the season. The BEARS goaltender was also named the game's number one star.

Notes: The game was the second of eight meetings between the two clubs, with the next four contests in the season series coming at GIANT Center in February and March. The BEARS will not return to Binghamton until April 4. Defensemen Trevor Byrne and Dean Arsene, along with forwards Matt Hendricks and Chad Wiseman were injury scratches for the game. The conclusion of the game marked the halfway point of the 2006-07 season, with 40 games played and 40 games remaining. The team traveled by bus directly to Bridgeport for Saturday's game at the Arena at Harbor Yard against the Sound Tigers. Former BEARS center Matt Koalska played against HERSHEY for the first time since being recalled by the New York Islanders in December from the BEARS. The BEARS played a scoreless 65 minutes for the first time since January 3, 2004 when Tom Lawson and Portland's Rastislav Stana dueled to a scoreless tie at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Pete Vandermeer was injured in the second period and did not return.
