Falcons Host Bruins Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Providence Bruins meet for the third time this season and second time at the MassMutual Center Friday night. The Falcons and Bruins have split a pair of games head-to-head this season with each team winning on home ice. Springfield beat Providence in a shootout, 3-2, back on December 2 at the MassMutual Center. The Bruins came back and beat the Falcons 7-2 this past Sunday at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Falcons forward Eric Healey leads Springfield in scoring against the Bruins with one goal and three assists for four points in two games. T.J. Trevelyan and Pascal Pelletier both lead Providence in scoring against Springfield this season with four points each in two games.

The Falcons head into tonight's game looking to snap a mini two-game losing streak and start a busy stretch of games with two points. Springfield enters tonight's game with a record of 20-18-0-1 through 39 games good for fourth place in the Atlantic Division standings. The Falcons are two points behind both the Portland Pirates and Hartford Wolf Pack, who are tied for second place in the standings. Springfield will play their next three consecutive games on home ice, including a match up against the Worcester Sharks on Saturday, followed by a Martin Luther King Day matinee starting at 4:05 PM against the Atlantic Division leading Manchester Monarchs.

The Bruins head into Springfield tied with the Lowell Devils in the Atlantic Division standings with 37 points each. Providence snapped a five-game losing streak against the Falcons this past Sunday and the P-Bruins have a record of 3-7-0 in their last 10 games. The Bruins are 17-18-1-2 through 38 games played, including 7-12-0-1 on the road this year. Providence begins a four-game road swing tonight when they head to Binghamton on Saturday, followed by a visit to Bridgeport on Sunday, and with the voyage concluding in Hartford next Wednesday.

FALCONS TEAM NOTES: The Falcons were led offensively last week by veteran forward Eric Healey, who collected at least a point in all four Springfield games. Healey ended the week with three goals and five assists for eight points. Healey continues to lead the Birds in scoring this season with 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points in 39 games played. Healey leads the Falcons in power play points with 18 and in multi-point games with 14. Healey earned his 400th career AHL point on January 5 against Portland.....Falcons forward David Spina collected his third goal of the season and added one assist in a 4-3 win on January 5 against Portland. It was Spina's first multi-point game of the year. Spina finished the week with points in three straight games collecting one goal and three assists for four points in that span.

Falcons defenseman Andy Delmore scored a pair of goals and was the game's third star on January 6 against Hartford. Delmore has 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in 38 games this season and he leads all AHL defensemen in goals. When Delmore registers a point in a game this season, the Falcons have a record of 12-6-0-0.....Center Daniel Corso finished last week with three goals and one assist for four points in four games. Corso was the game's first star on January 5 against Portland collecting two goals in a 4-3 Springfield win. In 26 games since joining the Falcons on November 9, Corso has six goals and 19 assists for 25 points.....Rookie Maxime Boisclair scored his first AHL goal on January 6 against Hartford. Boisclair made his AHL debut back on December 22 at Hartford and was named an ECHL All-Star on that same day.

FALCONS TRANSACTIONS: The Falcons announced Friday that they have mutually agreed to release forward Zdenek Blatny and allow Blatny to sign with MODO (Sweden) of the European Elite League. Blatny originally signed a standard American Hockey League contract with the Falcons on August 22, 2006 and appeared in 19 games this season collecting six goals and seven assists for 13 points....The Falcons also announced earlier in the week that defenseman John Adams has been reassigned to their ECHL affiliate, the Johnstown Chiefs. Adams has played in 16 games for the Falcons this season and registered one goal and three assists for four points.

AHL ALL-STARS: Falcons goaltender Karri Ramo and Bruins defenseman Matt Lashoff were both named to the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star Team and will take part in the mid-season classic on January28-29 in Toronto. Ramo is in his first season of professional hockey and has appeared in 24 games for the Falcons this season posting a record of 12-9-0 with a 3.13 goals against average and .904 save percentage. The 20-year-old native of Asikkala, Finland currently leads Springfield in games played, wins and minutes played with 1,284. Ramo earned his first professional shutout and win on October 22 in Bridgeport.

Lashoff is currently on recall to the Boston Bruins and has six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 28 games this season with Providence. Lashoff continues to lead all Providence defensemen in scoring this season and is also tied for second on the team in power play goals with four.

LEADING THE WAY: Providence rookie right wing Kris Versteeg continues to lead the team in scoring with 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points in 33 games played. The 5-foot-10, 179-pound native of Lethbridge, Alberta is currently ranked fourth in the AHL in rookie scoring. Versteeg joined Providence at the end of the 2005-06 campaign and collected two goals and four assists for six points in 13 games after splitting his final season of junior hockey between Kamloops and Red Deer of the Western Hockey League. Versteeg also played in three post-season games for the Bruins last year not registering a point.
