Lowell, MA - David Clarkson scored four goals and assisted on the game winner for a five-point night, leading the Lowell Devils (18-17-2-1) to a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms (14-21-1-2) Friday night at the Tsongas Arena.
Clarkson netted his first of the night and seventh of the season at 12:20 of the opening frame, wrapping the puck in from behind the net, sneaking it under Philly G Martin Houle to make it 1-0. The goal came on the power play, with assists from Nicklas Bergfors, playing in his first game since returning from the World Junior Championships, and Tomas Harant.
At 12:06 of the second, Clarkson scored again, banging in a centering feed from Ryan Murphy at the top of the crease. Lowell outshot the Phantoms 13-6 in the second period, and had a 22-13 advantage after 40 minutes of play.
The Phantoms solved Devils G Frank Doyle early in the third. Matt Ellison scored just 1:03 into the frame to cut the lead in half, and just four minutes later Philadelphia tied it up. Clarkson put the Devils back in front at 8:32 with his third of ! the night, giving him the second hat trick of the season for Lowell, and the first on home ice. With a power play goal at 10:14, however, John Slaney again made it a tie game, putting the Phantoms back in business. The Devils regained the lead for good with 59 seconds left in the game, as Ryan Murphy slipped home a rebound for the game winner. Clarkson added his fourth of the night, into an empty net, with a fraction of a second remaining in the game.
This morning D Andy Greene was recalled by New Jersey. He registered one shot in the Devils 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers. Greene was named to the PlanetUSA squad for the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic earlier this week.
