MacDonald Returns for Conditioning

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Friday assigned goaltender Joey MacDonald to the Grand Rapids Griffins for a two-week conditioning assignment. In addition, the Griffins announced the reassignment of right wing Josh Langfeld by the Red Wings and the release of goaltender Clayton Pool.

MacDonald, 26, spent the last four seasons (2002-06) with the Griffins and stands no. 1 all time on the team with 162 goaltender games played, 9085:19 minutes played, 87 wins, 16 shutouts and 4,198 saves. He also ranks among the franchise's leaders with a 0.922 save percentage (3rd) and a 2.36 goals against average (6th).

The Pictou, Nova Scotia, native made his NHL debut with Detroit in a no-decision at San Jose on Oct. 19, but he has not played since sustaining a 3-2 home loss to the Sharks on Dec. 2. In four appearances with the Red Wings, he shows a 0-2-1 record with a 3.67 GAA and a 0.857 save percentage.

MacDonald will be available to play tonight when the Griffins host the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights in a 7 p.m. start at Van Andel Arena.

Langfeld also returns to Grand Rapids following his third stint with the parent club. One of the Griffins' top producers with 11 goals (4th), 17 assists (T2nd) and 28 points (T2nd) in 33 games, he has logged one assist in eight games with Detroit.

Pool, who dressed for the Griffins' 3-0 win over Peoria on Wednesday, was released from his professional tryout following that contest. He returned to the UHL's Muskegon Fury.
