Rochester Americans News Release

Tonight, the Rochester Americans (23-11-1-0, 49 pts.) will take on their thruway rivals, the Syracuse Crunch (12-21-1-3, 28 pts.). The first 5,000 fans to the game will receive free one-month memberships to Personal Health Approach. Fans can save $5.00 on $15.00 tickets for the contest by picking up Tim Horton's savings vouchers at any participating Tim Horton's restaurant. The game is also a College Student Discount Night. College students with an ID will receive a $15.00 ticket for $8.00. The 7:35 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks, and will be televised live on TWSN 26.

Head-to-Head: The Crunch may be struggling this season against the rest of the league, but they have had the Amerks' number. Rochester has dropped two of three contests to their thruway rivals this season and their lone win required an overtime shootout. In the last meeting between the two teams on December 8th, the Crunch defeated the Amerks, 5-3. The Amerks are 71-53-15 against Syracuse all-time.

Amerk Notes: Despite losing three of their last four and going 7-7 in the month of December, the Amerks remain in first place in the North Division, two points in front of Manitoba. Rochester stands fifth in the AHL, eight points back of league leading Norfolk and Hershey. Forward Drew Stafford, who was named an AHL All-Star on January 8th, has 16 points (8+8) in his last nine games. Clarke MacArthur who was the only other Amerk invited to the 2007 Rbk AHL All-Star Classic, leads the team with 42 points (15+27), but has registered only one point in his last three games. In three games against the Crunch this season, Janis Sprukts has led the Amerks' offensive effort with one goal and one assist. Head Coach Randy Cunneyworth has 258 career wins, moving two away from tying Joe Crozier for second most in team history.

Syracuse Notes: The Crunch are 4-6-1-2 in their last 13 games, but have won four of their last eight after dropping six contests in a row. With the team's leading scorers Geoff Platt and Joe Motzo on recall with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Crunch are crunched in the offensive department, but defenseman Filip Novak and left wing Mark Hartigan have been more than willing to pick up the slack. Novak has registered a point in his last three games (1+4), while Hartigan has picked up points in six straight games. Hartigan has 15 goals and 10 assists in 27 games, but has missed the last three contests. With the recall of Ty Conklin, Tomas Popperle has grabbed the No. 1 spot that the two netminders had shared all season. The rookie goalie is 9-11-0-2 this season with a .894 save percentage and a 3.12 goals-against average.

Next Game: On Saturday, January 13th, the Amerks will head to Syracuse to complete their home-and-home series with the Crunch at War Memorial at Oncenter. The 7:30 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks, and televised live on TWSN 26.
