Hershey Bears News Release

The BEARS have had plenty to celebrate off the ice this week. The HERSHEY BEARS proudly announced that defenseman Dean Arsene has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the BEARS community during the 2005-06 season. Additionally, HERSHEY'S stellar defenseman, Mike Green was named to the American Hockey League's All-Rookie team. Green becomes the first HERSHEY player since Mike Gaul in 1997-1998 to be selected to the All-Rookie squad. The Washington Capitals recalled three BEARS this week; Eric Fehr, Louis Robitaille and Kris Beech all saw NHL action Wednesday night against Carolina.

On the ice this weekend, the BEARS look to eclipse the 100-point mark and continue to push for the East Division lead. Lawrence Nycholat will head into Philadelphia, Friday carrying a 7 game point streak. Nycholat has totaled 11 points over the last 7 games and has moved into a third place tie with rookie, Eric Fehr for the team scoring lead. Louis Robitaille became the 11th player in BEARS history to total more than 300 penalty minutes in a season with his PIM's in last Saturday's game against the Phantoms. He enters the weekend with 310 PIM's.

Philadelphia enters the Friday night contest with a record of 32-35-1-7 good for sixth place in the East Division. The BEARS and Phantoms played a spirited contest at GIANT Center last Saturday with the Phantoms coming out on top 6-2. The scoring trio of Jim Campbell, Tony Voce and John Slaney lead the Phantoms. The three have combined for 146 points this season. Rookie, Stefan Ruzicka has also provided scoring punch for the club this season, tallying 42 points in 68 games. The Phantoms are no strangers to the penalty box leading the division and the American Hockey League in PIM's. On a side note, Philadelphia will induct former BEAR, Neil Little into the Phantoms Hall of Fame Friday night before the BEARS and Phantoms get under way.

The Norfolk Admirals, currently the third place team in the East Division has already punched their ticket to the Calder Cup Playoffs. The Admirals have a 5 point lead over fourth place Bridgeport and are setting themselves up for a battle with HERSHEY in the first round. Leading scorer Mark Cullen is currently on recall to the Chicago Blackhawks, but the Admirals have talented All-Rookie team member Martin St. Pierre providing the offense in Cullen's absence. St. Pierre heads into the weekend with 67 points to his credit, placing him second on the Norfolk scoring list. Former BEAR, Carl Corazzini is fourth on the team in scoring with 25 goals and 28 assists. The Admirals have won six of their last nine games, and have outscored their opponents 10-4 in the last three victories.

Both games this weekend will be on the BEARS Radio Network (WQIC 100.1 FM, WLPA 1490 AM, WHYL 960AM) and on the B2 network via www.hersheybears.com. The pre-game show will begin at 6:55 p.m. Friday night from South Philadelphia with the game to follow at 7:05 p.m. The game Saturday from the Norfolk Scope will begin at 7:15 p.m. with the pre-game show beginning at 6:45 p.m.
