Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Syracuse, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs dropped a 5-2 decision to the Syracuse Crunch on Friday night at the Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.
Mike Sgroi gave the Crunch a 1-0 lead at 16:55 of the first period when he skated behind the Bulldogs net, came out in front and jammed the puck past Hamilton goaltender Yann Danis.
Syracuse took a 2-0 lead at the 7:04 mark of the middle stanza when Cam Severson centered the puck to Tyler Kolarik, who snapped a shot over the shoulder of Danis. Just 1:35 later, Francis Lemieux snuck in behind the Crunch defence and backhanded a shot between the legs of Syracuse goaltender Andrew Penner to cut the lead in half. Kolarik restored the Crunch's two-goal lead at 14:30 when he banged-in the rebound of a Joe Motzko shot.
Motzko, at 27 seconds, and Steven Goertzen, at 8:39, each scored in the third period with the Crunch on the power play to make the score 5-1. With 49 seconds remaining, Corey Locke one-timed a pass from Danny Syvret past Penner to make it 5-2 and round out the scoring.
Danis made 29 saves and suffered the loss, while Penner blocked 25 shots to earn the win.
Hamilton was 0 for 6 on the power play while Syracuse went 2 for 9.
