Help the Pirates Support the American Heart Association
April 7, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
The Portland Pirates have teamed with the American Heart Association to make a difference in the heart health of our community. We invite all of our fans and supporters to join us on May 21 at 8:30 AM at the USM Sullivan Gym for this year's Heart Walk.
We are serious about the heart health of our children as the prevalence of childhood obesity has more than doubled in the last 20 years leaving future generations to battle heart disease, high blood pressure and even premature death. Right now, the AHA is striving to make a difference in our children's lives through the Joint Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a program that is designed for kids to take charge of their lives and learn how to make a difference, www.healthiergeneration.org/kids.
For our kids and the ones we love affected by heart disease and stroke, the Portland Pirates have established the Portland Pirate Plank Walkers walk team and invite you to join our winning team. The Pirates have set a goal to put together a team of 185 walkers - the largest Walk Team ever in southern Maine. With the walk just 6 weeks away, we have 52 walkers signed up to join us on May 21st. Please consider joining the team to help us reach our goal.
As an incentive to our team and to help the American Heart Association to reach its goal, we have some exciting news - for every $50 you raise for the Southern Maine Heart Walk, you will be given one entry for a dinner with Coach Kevin Dineen and his wife Annie (for you and up to 4 family members). This means, if you raise $150, you will be entered 3 times!
To track all of our walkers for the contest we recommend you take advantage of the Heart Walk Website to contact your friends and family to ask them to support this important cause. Walkers raising money on-line average $49 more than without the help of the walk website! We also have walker envelopes available here at the office starting next week as well as at Customer Service at our home games on April 8th and 9th.
Click the link below to join the Pirates Plank Walkers Team - or to make a donation to the American Heart Association. You can also go to www.portlandpirates.com and click the JOIN THE OFFICIAL WALK TEAM button to join us.
If you would prefer to make a donation to the cause without joining the walk team, you can download a donation form online, or send a check made out to the American Heart Association to the following address:

We need your support to reach our $25,000 fundraising goal.
Thank you, Brian
P.S. We also thank those of you who have already joined our team. We look forward to walking with you on May 21st.
