Hershey Bears News Release

Last Week: The BEARS kicked off a season-high five game road trip by defeating the Hartford Wolfpack 4-1 at the Hartford Civic Center. Mathieu Darche, Chris Bala and Andre Savage all scored first period goals against the Wolf Pack's Jason LaBarbera. The loss for Hartford was the first for the Wolf Pack in ten games. Peter Budaj allowed just one goal in winning his third game of the season. Friday night the BEARS lost 3-2 at Providence. Savage and Cody McCormick scored goals for HERSHEY in the losing effort. Brett Clark notched a point in his seventh straight game in the contest. The BEARS finished the week in Manchester, New Hampshire, falling to the Monarchs 5-0. Former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton forward Tom Kostopoulos scored two goals in the game and was named the game's number one star. The BEARS begin the week in seventh place in the East Division with a 4-8-1-0 record.

Notables: Andre Savage's goal Wednesday during the first period in Hartford was shown during ESPN's Top Ten plays of the day on Sportscenter Thursday. The goal was significant for HERSHEY; it marked the first time this season that the BEARS held a two-goal lead. Chris Bala's first period goal Wednesday was his first since October 15 when he scored in the third period at Norfolk. Brett Clark had his seven game point streak snapped Saturday when HERSHEY lost at Manchester 5-0. The streak by Clark represents the longest point streak by a BEARS skater this season. Wednesday's victory at Hartford was televised by Madison Square Garden Network in New York, Fox Sports New England and Leafs TV in Ontario. Mathieu Darche had scored goals in three straight games before he was blanked Friday in Providence, and points in four straight before Saturday's game in Manchester. Friday's game with Albany will be the first of eight meetings between the BEARS and Rats in 2004-05. The five-goal loss at Manchester was the worst defeat for HERSHEY since an 8-3 loss at GIANT Center on October 20, 2002 against Albany. Dennis Bonvie enters the week second in the AHL in penalty minutes with 98. He trails only Binghamton's Brian McGrattan who checks in with 127 to start the week.
