Hoover, AL - In his first start of the year, Tom Layne allowed one earned run as the Mobile BayBears (8-4, 46-36) blasted the Birmingham Barons (7-5, 47-35), 5-2, in front of 5,701 fans Monday night at Regions Park. The game was delayed two hours and eighteen minutes due to rain.

The BayBears took an early advantage in the top of the third when Ollie Linton reached on a walk, stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Nevin Griffith. With two runners on, Linton singled to center field before Easley rushed home on Griffith's wild pitch. Adam Eaton followed with a groundout that delivered Linton for the final run of the inning, 5-0.

The Barons answered with one run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brandon Short singled to center field and was bumped to second after Christian Marrero was hit by a pitch. Following a fly out by Kenny Williams, Jr. that pushed Short to third, a line-drive single to center field by Justin Greene plated Short for the Barons first run, 5-1.
