Knoxville Smokies News Release

Montgomery, AL - Brett Jackson's second home run of the night was the lift the Smokies needed in an extra innings, 2-1 victory over the Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium. With the win, Tennessee improves to 8-5 in the second half and are now 51-32 overall.

The Biscuits picked up right where they left off in Monday's 10-1 drubbing of the Smokies. In the bottom of the first inning off RHP Ryan Searle, Stephen Vogt reached first base on a walk with two outs. The next batter, Henry Wrigley, smashed a triple down the left field line to score Vogt and give Montgomery a 1-0 lead. The Smokies answered back in the top of the third inning off RHP Shane Dyer. With two outs, Brett Jackson launched a solo home run to right-centerfield to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams had chances to take a lead through the middle innings of the game. Tennessee had runners at third base with less than two outs in both the fourth and sixth innings, and they were unable to drive in the runners home. In the seventh inning, both teams had the bases loaded and came up empty. It would remain tied at 1-1 at the end of nine innings.

After Jackson's second homer of the night off RHP Zach Quate (3-3) in the top of the tenth, RHP Jeff Stevens came on to pitch in the bottom of the tenth and struck out the first two batter before snagging a comebacker to the mound to end the game.

Jackson was the only hitter for both teams with a multi-hit game. The Smokies and Biscuits combined to go 0-for-17 with runners in scoring position. The Smokies are now 5-3 on the year in games decided in extra innings.

The Smokies and Biscuits play the third game of the series on Wednesday night at 8:05 PM. RHP Dallas Beeler (1-3, 4.97) will get the start for the Smokies, and the Biscuits counter with LHP Matt Moore (6-3, 2.21). The Smokies return to Smokies Park on Friday, July 8 to welcome in the Chattanooga Lookouts. Tickets can be purchased at www.smokiesbaseball.com or by calling (865) 286-2300.
