Louisville Bats News Release

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Louisville Bats (47-67) fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (54-58) by a 5-4 score at Coca-Cola Park in what was the first matchup between the clubs this season.

Louisville came into the game trying to snap its two-game losing streak after winning seven of their past eight games prior, but could not hold onto its lead. The Bats scored first in the top of the second inning, when right fielder Rob Refsnyder launched a Cole Irvin offering over the fence for his ninth homer of the season. Irvin (5-0, 3.99) would end up getting the win in the game.

The IronPigs tied it 1-1 in the fourth, before the Bats regained the lead in the very next inning with three runs on three hits. Mitch Nay and Nick Longhi began the frame with back-to-back singles, and Bats starting pitcher Keury Mella advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Nay scored on a fielding error, while Longhi came around to score on a Narciso Crook RBI groundout. Jose Siri scored the final run of the inning on a Christian Colon single, which made it a 4-1 Louisville lead.

It proved to be a short-live advantage, however, with Lehigh Valley scoring four runs off Mella (7-11, 4.98) in the bottom of the inning. Three of the four runs came on a three-run homer off the bat of veteran slugger Logan Morrison.

The Bats' bullpen did its job by keeping the opposition off the scoreboard in 3.0 innings of work, with Justin Grimm, Tim Collins and Alex Powers coming in and getting the job done. The "Pig Pen" was also stingy, keeping the Bats off the scoreboard in 3.0 innings in what was a 5-4 final score.

Louisville threatened in the ninth with runners on first and second and one out after singles by Refsnyder and Chadwick Tromp, but had their rally spoiled when Edgar Garcia nailed down his sixth save of the season by inducing a line drive double play off the bat of Nay that resulted in Refsnyder getting doubled off second base.

Tomorrow night, right-hander Sal Romano (4-7, 4.55) takes the ball for Louisville as they look to even the series. Lehigh Valley will counter with right-hander Dan Straily (0-1, 10.80) with another 7:05 first pitch.
