Jaylin Davis Honored as International League Player of the Month

August 6, 2019 - International League (IL1) News Release

The International League announced today that Rochester outfielder Jaylin Davis has been named the League's Player of the Month for July. Along with winners from other leagues, Davis will be presented with an award from Minor League Baseball and Uncle Ray's Potato Chips in recognition of his outstanding performance last month.

In his first full month playing at the Triple-A level, and also what turned out to be his final month in the Twins organization, Jaylin Davis batted .368 and led the International League with 39 hits, eleven home runs, 27 RBI, 80 total bases, 30 runs scored, and a .755 slugging percentage. Less than two full weeks after being promoted to Rochester from Double-A Pensacola, Davis entered July red-hot, starting off the month with a nine-game hitting streak in which he collected multiple hits seven times and earning IL Batter of the Week honors on July 8. His power was on display all month, including a stretch in which he went deep five times over seven games. His biggest outburst came on July 23, as he led Rochester to a 16-3 thumping of Norfolk by going 5-for-5 with three doubles and four runs scored. On July 31, Davis was part of a trade between the Twins and Giants. He joined Triple-A Sacramento in the Pacific Coast League, homering in two of his first three games for the River Cats. Davis becomes the first Rochester player to be honored as the IL Player of the Month since June of 2017 (Zack Granite).

Jaylin Davis, who turned 25 the first day of July, is in his fourth season as a professional player. Minnesota selected him in the 24th round of the 2015 draft. He had not played higher than the Double-A level before being promoted to Rochester in mid-June. He was traded to the Giants organization on July 31 as part of the deal for reliever Sam Dyson. Davis is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina.
